Installation
Installation is a key Monarch® advantage. Our composite decking and railing systems are easy to work with on the job site and installation requires no special tools. You can install Monarch decking and railing products anywhere -- on nearly any surface.
For your convenience we’ve included our as downloadable PDF’s.
Tips
- Prior to installing Charleston™ Post Sleeves, make sure your pressure treated 4”x4”s are as plumb as possible. Warped, bowed or damaged 4”x4”s should be corrected or replaced.
- Screw Baluster Plugs into top and bottom rails in advance. (On the bottom rail only, leave, the outer two balusters plugs off. This will provide additional room for attaching the rail mount brackets. The plugs can be easily installed after the bottom rail is secured to the post.)
- The Rail Bracket Cover (Trim Ring) will need to be installed on the rail, prior to securing the rail to the post sleeve.
- When cutting a Level Rail, save time by lining the bottom rail up by eye. Position the bottom rail against the outside of the two posts. Place the rail so baluster plug spacing is even, and then mark each side for cutting.
- Allow 1/8” between the Post Trim and the Mounting Rail Bracket to allow for the Mounting Bracket Cover.
- When attaching rail section to Post Sleeves, first verify local building code height requirements. For a 36” height requirement, take a scrap piece of 2”x4” or 4”x4” lay it on its side next to the post sleeve. The block will eliminate any torquing effect that may occur when attached the rail section to the Post Sleeve.
- To install the Top Rail for a Level Rail kit, place baluster top without securing rail brackets. (Having two or more people help position the balusters in Top Rail will save time). Work from one direction to the other, with one person gradually positioning each baluster over each plug. Have someone else push down Top Rail as each additional plug is aligned. Balusters need to be completely recessed in both top and bottom Baluster Plugs. Important: drill pilot holes through the post sleeve prior to fastening screws.
